An attack by Yemeni Houthi rebels on a Belize-flagged ship earlier this month caused an 18-mile (29-kilometer) oil slick, the U.S. military said Saturday.
“The Houthis continue to demonstrate disregard for the regional impact of their indiscriminate attacks, threatening the fishing industry, coastal communities, and imports of food supplies,” it said.
The Associated Press, relying on satellite images from Planet Labs PBC of the stricken vessel, reported Tuesday that the vessel was leaking oil in the Red Sea.
This is such blatant propaganda
The Houthi are the ruling regime in Yemen, not rebels. This is a way to make them sound illegitimate. I don’t like them at all but they did oust foreign imperial powers from their country (Saudi Arabia and the USA).
They are trying impose sanctions against Israel and say they will stop as soon as there is a ceasefire. They are doing this to win domestic support.
I really wish more countries would impose sanctions against Israel.
Again they are pretty bad islamists and apparently pretty incompetent, but the overall framing here is propaganda.
The legitimate government of Yemen still exists, is still recognised as the government of Yemen by the United Nations, and is still controlling significant amounts of territory roughly equivalent to former South Yemen.
They are attacking random civilian ships that are not headed to or from Israel. That’s not “sanctioning Israel”, that’s declaring war on the entire world.
How can the government be legit if it’s backed by the US? :D
Thanks for the info, I didn’t know they still are clinging on. Afaik they started with sanctions against Israel bound ships, then got attacked and now attack any US or UK ships. No doubt further escalations are coming instead of a ceasefire.
Calling PBS and AP - two of the most highly regarded news sources - “blatent propaganda” says more about this comment than the article.
You linked the Wikipedia article:
As far as I know, even their allies Iran and North Korea don’t recognize them as the legitimate government of Yemen. I’m not sure where you got your information, but I believe perhaps you misread or misunderstood something that you read.
Maybe they should stop “helping” Palestinians by creating environmental disasters on ships that weren’t even going to Israel.
The article isn’t propaganda. Your post is the propaganda.
BINGO.
