  • Google can axe YouTube to stop the bleeding aaaaaanytime they want. And creators can go back to working 9-5 aaaaaanytime they want, too.

When G bought YT, it was clear as day that the site was unprofitable. G bought it anyway. Now they are like ‘but it’s too expensive whaaaaaa’. Bed, sleep in, all that.

Now, for about a third of my subscriptions, I either buy merch or am on their patreon. Some are, amazingly, still there just because they like making videos (no direct monetization), and others I watch their vids but they don’t give me enough reason to financially pitch in.

But you can’t be like ‘oh yt is just some scrappy startup that will fail without your help, you’re killing a platform’. And even the biggest creators out there, I think they are a fucking moron for literally basing their livelihood on a website - run by G, of all companies. gestures to the g graveyard

Not my issue, not my problem. And I’m sure as fuck not going to feel bad about it.

  • Origin was better in literally every way, but it’s predecessor, the EA Download Manager, was even better, as it wasn’t an always-online DRM piece of shit. You logged in, it listed your games, it downloaded them, and games still used a CD key.

Though I’m still pissy, as I bought NFS Carbon and obtained it via EADM, but when they moved to Origin, existing games didn’t transfer, and there was no way to grab games for archival. So EA owes me a fucking copy of Carbon, since I didn’t have it installed when they sunset EADM.

Fuck you, EA. In every conceivable sense of the word and action.

  • “it’s just in the corner, when you drive near one of our Partner companies”

“it’s just a square on the main menu”

    “it’s just a brief full-screen suggestion”

“it’s just whispering sweet nothings at a forced-volume into your Harman Kardon premium audio system (we have always done this for plebs who opted for our standard audio system)”

“it just adds an additional waypoint to your route, like our new Signature Partner, Dunkin’ Doughnuts. Get a free small coffee when you spend $15 and say the keywords ‘ADS4LIFE’ into the drive-thru robot”

“it’s only taking control and driving you in comfort to your nearest Ford dealership to trade-in your vehicle at 100,000 miles”

“it’s only siphoning your blood plasma to keep the FordOS AI financially afloat”

“it’s only recording your banking details at the ATM and charging you a monthly weekly fee to support and assist you with our cutting-edge technology”

“GIVE US ALL YOUR MONEY NOW OR WE ARE DRIVING YOU OFF THE GRAND CANYON”

    Rookie numbers etc etc

(I have categories of tabs on desktop, and different browsers of tabs on mobile, that grow until I forward them to the desktop, where I then convert them to bookmarks on one of my servers, categorically [e: Linkding]; and the cycle repeats. I have something like 500 tabs on desktop, a couple hundred on mobile, and several thousand on the bookmark list. Even with tags, date/times and search, it’s still looking through a trove. From porn to home security, server hardware to virtualization, I can link you to a specific item after I find it in 3 to 5 business days.)
