Great, now I have the song stuck in my head. Going to be mumbling about golden retrievers all day. 🤣

The forced Lumen tanks frame rates even on my 5080.
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto Game Deals@lemmy.zip•Steam Deal: Save 67% on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora ($17.27)English2·1 month agoPicked this up on deep discount for ps5… what an incredible slog the intro is. We’re talking 30+ minutes before you have any control over the PC. Then, it’s a protracted tutorial with instafail stealth sections.
I’m not an avatar fan, only saw the first movie, but man, I could not get in to this game at all. It just felt padded for the sake of it. This coming from someone who generally enjoys the UbiSoft formula (100% all Far Cry’s since 2).
If you pick it up, be sure to fire it up before the refund window closes.
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck sales still going strong over three years laterEnglish3·2 months agoWas the soldered CMOS different than the removable one? I fought the battery (removable) in mine for a year or two and eventually just shelved it. Would love to get it running as a low energy emulation station if it’s salvageable
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto Games@sh.itjust.works•Evil Dead: The Game is now, ironically, a literal dead game as its developer removes it from saleEnglish91·2 months ago4v1 asymetrical has long ago ruined any chances of a legacy franchise horror game.
I hate this style of gameplay. It encourages min/maxing, griefing and requires YouTube strat watching. I am too old for all that shit. I just want to play a decently made (quality here can match the movies honestly) b-tier game in these worlds I grew up loving. Instead, I try these things at launch when they’re buggy but still have some equality as the player base hasn’t gone full toxic and then by the time they’re patched and stable, its full of sweats or dead.
By now we’ve burned through Evil Dead, Killer Klowns, Texas Chainsaw and Friday the 13th chasing Dead by Daylight money.
What a fucking waste of dev resources. All it’s done is make each and everyone of those potentially great franchises for story telling appear too unprofitable for suits to jump in again…likely never on some of them.

I hate this timeline.
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto Games@sh.itjust.works•Respawn reportedly lay off staff across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi teams, cancel two incubation projectsEnglish21·2 months agoThe sick irony is that between the 2 distinct approaches to titans, there’s room for a fantastic hero shooter where the titans function as long run ults.
The PC / meatbag is a generic or, fuck it, a Apex bro/sis, and their ult is a Titanfall. Add some leveled / unique loadout options like 1 to the focused classes of 2 and its an easy win.
At least it is for this nerd on the internet who knows fuck all about VG development and mainstream gaming habits in 2025.

vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on SteamEnglish41·2 months agoThis game is a technical mess. Oblivion is top 3 of all time for me. I’m the target audience for a litany of reasons, yet I refunded it after 3 hours.
It runs like shit on everything. Windows? Check. Linux? Check. Steam Deck? Check. GeforceNow? Check.
As soon as you leave the prison it all falls apart. Hopefully the next few months of patching can salvage it. I’ll keep an eye on reports. Until then though, the console versions seem to be the only way it’s worth trying to run this release.
Specs for anyone interested:
PC running Win 11 23h2 and PopOS - Ryzen 5900x, 5080FE
Laptop Running 24h2 and Mint Ryzen 7945HX, 4080
Both of those should be able to run this game at 240 1080p, 120 2k or 60 4k and unfortunately none of that happens. Its just a see saw of random drops and stutters not matter what settings I use.

Fucking scrub ass drivers.
nm, realized which sub this was. Black screens aren’t a problem on Linux… Yet.
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•GoG Classics Promo [some classics priced around 1~3€/$]English5·3 months agoIt is a real dog to control on PC unfortunately. Tried with wired and wireless controllers, Steam and GOG. It was made in that era where there was no common PC controller drivers. Mouse control is pretty jumpy as well.
That said, fantastic game if you can get over the humps. There’s a few good mods as well to update some of the jank.
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto World News@lemmy.world•Ireland issues travel warning for USEnglish15·3 months agoJesus Christ. Was over there from the states last year and Ireland is a lovely country (if yer not a cunt to the locals). Have some friends from there coming this way next month. Hope this doesn’t fuck it up.
So exhausted by this oppressive regimes ability to crush every bit of hope and happiness we might try to have.

And agreed on the pine faces. I’ve been of half a mind to learn how to make them so I could have more variety.
vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Get your new PebbleOS watchEnglish251·4 months agoFor anyone looking for a similar device in the interim (long battery, open source) the PineTime is a great device.
Oh man, watched this a few weeks ago. So, I’m a huge Beastmaster fan (was my #1 childhood film) and Cranston is impeccable always, but….
I’ll give this movie one compliment, it was like 75 minutes long.
Definitely an artifact of its time.

Now give me a uplay - crossplay license for PC, Xbox and PS4/5 (with streaming licenses for geforcenow, Xbox Cloud and PS-Whatever it is) and I’d day 1, Ultimate-Deluxe-Gold w/ Season One Season Pass that shit.
They won’t. But we could have lived there instead of the land of minimal effort, 4th rate headline grabs of desperation. Instead the Guillemots (let’s all agree to name and shame multimillionaires from here on out, every chance we get) angle their golden chutes away from the impact zone as the company puts all it’s underpaid, non-unionized dev teams hopes and dreams of eating this summer against a bloated budget and assembly lined “creative decisions”.

I’d argue the most effective anticheat is dedicated servers. Admin’ed a lot of CS, TFC, and Q3 servers growing up and it was easy enough to kick/ban any one hacking or being an unrepentant dick. Downside for the corps is, you can’t gate all that dlc as easy when users have control.
