  • Oh sweet summer child, the Fediverse isn’t the safe space you think it is. Just because Lemmy’s devs are a bunch of tankie morons doesn’t mean shit. The moment admins and mods use their power to force their dumb narrative, people find a new instance to call home.

That’s why the vast majority of Lemmy users are on general purpose instances. The greater community is anti-Tankie and recognizes places like the ML instances and Hexbear to be the cesspools they are. Even if the ML instances are run by the Lemmy devs, they never became big like the Mastodon flagships because they have toxic admins.

As long as you’re out spreading pro-Trump propaganda, people will be here to call you out on it. I’m sure you’d enjoy a block so we can turn a blind eye to you, but that’s not what’s going to happen. If the tankie gatekeeping you’re doing keeps becoming a trend, you’ll may soon find yourself blocked by all of your critics, because nobody will federate with your instances anymore. At least then you won’t have any reach anymore and you can exist in the fringes where you belong.

And if the Lemmy devs prove to be a problem, Kbin and Mbin easily replace Lemmy. Tankies don’t own the fediverse and never will.

  • Well, a dog is a lower risk animal than wildlife. This was a poorly socialized squirrel that bit someone, and had potentially been in contact with hundreds of other animals at an animal sanctuary. The squirrel and the raccoon aren’t legally pets in NY, and no effort was made to make them legal educational animals. From the standpoint of public health policy, what went down was pretty much by-the-books. The only way to test for rabies is to run tests on brain tissue. There isn’t a “famous TikTok Animal” exception to the rules that protect us from rabies outbreaks.

  • There is no CPU that is ever going to be supported for 10 years for a consumer application. ARM CPUs today are 20x faster than they were 10 years ago, and the ARM/RISC-V chips a decade from now will likely be 10-20x faster than today.

Regardless, the Kryo 670 CPU in the Fairphone 5 is already 3.5 years old, and it’s not super special, it’s just a semi-custom Snapdragon SoC. Consider that 4G LTE launched 13 years ago in the USA, and in 10 years that Kryo chip in the FP5 will be older than that. Could you handle the performance of your last 3G phone today?

  • Look, fuck the Iranian morality police, but there is a video of the arrest and there is nothing in it that suggests that they “smashed her head into the concrete” during the arrest. From what I saw, she’s pretty much just restrained and forced into the back of a police car. Amnesty International is suggesting that violence was a part of the arrest, but they aren’t providing specific details on what that entails. I don’t doubt that this woman’s human rights are being violated right now, given how Iran usually operates, but it’s incredibly suspicious to find an anonymous Internet rando who claims to know the specifics on that alleged violence that other reputable sources apparently don’t.

If you have a trustworthy source on this detail, I’d like to see it, otherwise it kinda sounds like you’re sprinkling fake details into a very real story about the oppression of women, which isn’t helpful.

  • What did I say?

    You said:

People just keep trying to imply there’s some bullshit xenophobic message behind me expressing I don’t want people praying around me.

Those people are right. You are xenophobic against certain religions and cultures, and demand that people conceal their identities around you. By making this point in defense of a woman who pepper sprayed a man for praying, you’re making it abundantly clear that you think violence is an acceptable response to seeing another person pray. You’ve also suggested that praying is somehow a warning sign of violence, which given the fact that the victim in this story was Muslim, clearly reflects what you think of Muslims and their faith.

  • Their votes will be counted.

First they will count the Trump and Harris votes that actually matter. Then they will quickly tally the rest of the ballots and easily conclude that no other candidate stands a chance, and then they will declare either Trump or Harris the winner.

Splitting the “other” category up into different third party candidates is a waste of effort since all of them will lose, and that outcome can easily be determined by tallying all the ballots not going to Trump or Harris. There are no 2nd or 3rd place winners.

  • On one hand, I totally understand that if technical and regulatory issues prevent certain phones from being able to call emergency services, cutting those phones off is a matter of public safety. You don’t want people learning that their phones can’t call emergency services when a loved one is having a heart attack or something.

But this seems like a decision that is pretty toxic to tourism and international business. If I ever visit Australia, am I going to need to buy a phone when I get there? It doesn’t seem wise to make your cell network work all that differently from the rest of the world when cell phones are supposed to work seamlessly across borders.
