Sounds like a risky move

How often do you think it would need to supply a whole state? Australian states are massive.

I’m in NSW, and from memory, I can think of a few power outages that took down a few tens of thousands of homes for a few days. Most are much smaller. That’s in a state with a couple of million homes. So at most a few percent of the state. So even in a worst case scenario maybe you still get a day at full power. If you ration it out to essential services, then a lot longer.

This is all ignoring the fact that most outages are grid related, not generation related, which means that nuclear would be of no help, but a somewhat distributed battery backup system could be massively useful.

I’ve been using it full time for 21 years, and dual boot for years before that. Early on it definitely took up a bit of time, but that’s mostly because I was interested in breaking things and learning to fix them. Even 10-15 years ago I don’t think I would have spent more than a few hours a month fixing things. These days it’s a few hours a year, and that’s only when I start messing around with something in a careless way.

I think this one is more subliminal than the others… Usually they’re just trying to deflect and distract and using accusations to do it… This time he’s legitimately annoyed and just being honest.

And/or (i suspect this is more likely) it will threaten to do so, and mastodon.social/.online will update their TOS to fix the problem identified in the bug report. Either way it’s a win for federation, in that migration is relatively painless for the user…

FWIW, I think “water is alive” is only a concept that makes sense in a context where the water is interacting with other things (e.g. the hydrocycle, winds, tides, ecology). Water in the purified and stored sense isn’t really… Unless it can rust it’s container, I suppose. But yeah, rivers being alive makes lots of sense.

Haha, yeah, it’s way beyond what could currently do - I have barely used a router. I was thinking you could trace the line for a spiral jig by having a a peg the right diameter in the middle, wrapping some non-stretchy string around it, and tying a pencil to it. But yeah, actually cutting it neatly would be a bitch. I guess a jigsaw and a lot of patience and clean up.

I’ve been running kubuntu on a lenovo yoga for years, works great.

I think the only think is that the touch screen maps incorrectly when there’s a second monitor plugged in. I didn’t use it enough for that to be annoying, and it’s possible it’s fixed on plasma 6, I haven’t tried yet.
