If you have the time to have all the hobbies that other people have and to roll your own home servers that’s great, but that means you have an above average amount of free time. Otherwise, other people have hobbies that don’t include server OS updates and choose to spend their time there and pay for someone else to manage their servers.

I know I tuned out of Alan Wake 1 really early thinking it was going to be a boring ‘look around with a flashlight game’. I was very surprised by how fun and intricate the combat eventually got when I went back and actually played it through.

And on the writing side, I didn’t realize just how funny and tongue in cheek it all is. I think Alan Wake is always a bit of a hard sell because Remedy wants to gradually build and surprise you with new things, and all their humour is super deadpan and satirical of this hard boiled story, which can combine to make it seem kind of boring at a surface / marketing level until you get into the game and realize what’s happening and how much fun they’re having with it.

I will be buying this as a Christmas present for several friends.

Really, really fantastic game, and Remedy is one of the best studios in existence right now. I can’t think of many other games / studios that take swings as big as them.

Everyone having a FaceTime call does this. Every dash cam does this. Every Ring doorbell and self driving car does this. You can do this with a $10 usb pinhole webcam and an android phone or raspberry Pi.

The problem here is with facial recognition databases, not with people using cameras in public.

This has nothing to do with Facebook or Rayban. This can be done with a webcam and a laptop from 2006.

The entire problem here is PimEyes and the fact that it’s legal to collect and build a biometrics database in the first place.

Hell, NK joining the war is an escalation by both NK and Russia. Does this justify NATO adding Ukraine just for them to immediately invoke article 5? I don’t think so.

Here’s the thing, if Ukraine just invaded Kursk, unprompted, and Russia used North Korean troops to push them back into Ukraine, it would be problematic because of the sanctions against North Korea, but it would not be an escalation, it would merely be Russia’s allies helping it to defend itself.

The reality though, because Russia is in Ukraine, is that those troops, even if they’re only deployed to Kursk, are done so to free up more Russian troops to invade Ukraine. Which makes it a massive escalation of the invasion of Ukraine no matter what.

NATO troops (or planes if we were to impose a no fly zone), would, however, still be purely defensive. Hell, ask Ukraine to give up Kursk for direct Nato support and they would in a second.

I’m jacked up about Avowed, and Obsidian remains one of the best studios in existence right now, but it really felt like this article said absolutely nothing of substance. Basically just, “we’re trying to make a well paced game with complex narrative choice”, and it’s like yeah, you’re Obsidian, that’s what you do and have always done.

Eh, I would actually believe this is purely user driven. Their solution doesn’t sound like it will work differently in Europe vs the rest of the world, and if their claims about it being encrypted and only user accessible are true, there is fundamentally no benefit to them from a data harvesting stand point.

They also face a lot of competition in the messaging space, moreso than any of their other apps, which will generally incentivize them to be more user focused.

The only low-code platform I actually respect.
