Very nice UI. Pleasantly surprised (even if I’m staying w/ ansiweather)

It’s great to see people do their civic duty. A part of me does wonder whether civic engagement is as laudable when people are voting for others’ rights to be taken away. Let me refrain from being a negative Nancy tho
One suggestion is to look at getting any useful docker container up and running first to get a feel for it, then pivot towards heavier lifts. Self-hosting emails is going to be a headache as others have said, and monero nodes sounds like it could be a technical as well but that’s admittedly an uneducated guess.
You can look at the recent selfh.st poll for the most popular docker containers, see if any strike your interest and start there.
There is an inherent catch-22 in that the people who believe AI a fluke will rarely have the time/interest in realizing the vast improvements since the initial launch 2-3 years ago.
I am as frugal as they come, yet I shell out money for the paid version and have a reference point on its helpfulness that is grounded in experience. It is almost impossible trying to create a reference point to those that have no (recent) experience and refuse to get any.
It’s human nature/Dunning-Kreuger so I can’t be too frustrated I suppose.
Troublehsooting technology.
I’ve been using Linux as my daily driver for a year and a half and my learning is going a lot quicker thanks to AI. It’s so much easier to ask a question and get an answer instead of searching through stack overflow for 30 minutes.
That isn’t to say that the LLM never gives terrible advice. In fact, two weeks ago, I was digging through my logs for a potential intruder (false alarm) and the LLM gave me instructions that ended up deleting journal logs completely.
The good far outweighs the bad for sure tho.
The Linux community specifically has an anti-AI tilt that is embarrassing at times. LLMs are amazing, and much like random strangers on the internet, you don’t blindly trust/follow everything they say, and you’ll be just fine.
The best way I think of AI is that it’s going through a bubble not unlike the early days of the internet. There was a lot of overvalued companies and scams, but it still ushered in a new era.
Another analogy that comes to mind is how people didn’t trust wikipedia 20 years ago because anyone could edit it, and now it is one of the most trusted sources for information out there. AI will never be as ‘dumb’ as it is today, which is ironic because a lot of the perspective I see on AI was formed around free models from 2023.
Why would Putin dump Trump? That’s like Netanyahu dumping Trump, no?
Reminds me of the time that the FBI created ‘secure’ phones for illicit criminal activities
There’s a great Search Engine episode on it https://player.fm/series/search-engine-3326982/whats-the-best-phone-to-do-crimes-on
To those late to the party, you can sample voices here so that you’re not in a crapshoot: https://rhasspy.github.io/piper-samples/
Just to clarify, this is standalone and doesn’t need a local LLM or anything yeah? Also, any tips on tutorials for the install process?
Edit: Nevermind, I realize it’s install and use
I made the jump last year. There will be ups and downs but I don’t plan on using another OS on my computers ever.
Might want to link to the official page for a bit more context
Veronica Explains has a good intro video on it if you’re looking for an intro btw.
If thinner, lighter and modern-ness are of interest, I’d say a chrultrabook, but they are more finicky re: swapping out parts. If you are looking for TUI-only, then it can be a sufficient option for a fraction of the price of the competition.
That’s how I watch it as well. I think the benefit of the YT clips is that the editors crop in news articles to bolster his claims w/ factual evidence. It’s like a built-in fact checker confirmer
I agree re: China. Terrible takes.
I’m a fan and catch YT recaps of topics he covers that I find interesting.
I will say though that he, as a political influencer, is beholden to his target demographic in the same way that Fox News captivates/gets held captive by its more fervent supporters. It’s a crude analogy, but my understanding is that the ideals of journalism is to follow the news, while influencers follow the engagement.
It is interesting getting his insights and hearing a knowledgeable person speak on the issues, but it isn’t the same as getting news from a true blue journalist imo
I agree 100%. Liberals retweeting how Elon is losing money is actually making him money
There’s an irony seeing Redditors creating threads and complaining about it as if they did anything during the API-gate saga
OTA antennae for sports.
For streaming, I usually watch it on my laptop so that I can have easier options to skip and replay.
My desktop is connected via HDMI so I have that as an option but I rarely take advantage of it.
I live by myself so I don’t have as much pushback as you likely would FYI
Same. I imagine it’s how most Christians feel about their loudest supporters as well
