  • I trained (for lack of a better word) my husband to wash the cast iron without wrecking the finish. He used to leave it soaking, I didn’t freak out but told him that was bad for them and he could just toss them into the oven dirty if needed and I’d deal with them (like you, I am the cook not the clean) but then he’d want to make eggs or something and the pan would be dirty so he asked how to. I got a chainmail scrubber and he loves doing it now because he loves the chainmail scrubber. Like - I will sometimes use soap on mine because I can judge the finish but he will not put soap now, will only scrape and has begun to love the pans too, after so many years he realizes because they never wear out just get better.

I did have to reset a couple of mine once, burn off the seasoning and sand them and restore and yes they looked like this picture. It was terrifying but they got great again. Such durable goods they are!

  • Where I am, strays are usually catch, sterilize, release. But if you caught a cat who was sick they’d treat it, and lots of cats end up at the shelter because people don’t fix their pet cat in time, and they get pregnant (even if you are responsible - we had a brother sister pair and I asked the vet what she would he fix them, he said “6 months”, I asked but when can they get pregnant? “4 months”. Thankfully it didn’t happen, they were fixed and lived long kitten free lives).

And pets, if someone gets sick and can’t care for them they get surrendered.

  • A Republican mayor is different category somehow, at least where I live we tend to alternate and unfailingly it goes like this:

Democratic mayor works on infrastructure, storm drains, water pipes, things you can’t see. Some social programs too, down payment assistance, e-bike vouchers, tree giveaways, funds for low income housing.

Republican mayor courts business, works on the superficial beautification of the city, showy things like stadiums, funnels tax money to companies more than to individuals. Tax breaks for hiring locals, rather than trying to push the money straight back to us.

I kind of think we need a little of that, but not sure why it gets labeled fiscally conservative.

  • It’s too uneven. Personally our household is doing better because both kids are working and the company I work for ditched plans to go public, and a couple of other factors. But:

Car insurance increased sharply (probably counted as money coming into the economy)

    Homeowners insurance increased

    Food prices increased.

Wages don’t increase as much as household costs. Until the wages of everyday people are growing faster than their expenses, they aren’t doing better. Again, personally we are, but I don’t think that can be extrapolated out, most households don’t have an opportunity to deploy more people to work.

  • Who decides what is “real” though, if it’s not the person in the body? So someone says they are a boy, but the MRI says nope, you are wrong, you are a girl through and through.

What if I am a cis woman and have a mind that works more like a guy’s mind? But if I still am comfortable and happy in my woman’s body, who cares how my mind works? Nobody, that’s who. Why would trans people not get the same consideration?

I just don’t think it makes sense to use tech to invalidate someone’s experience, and it’s just not anyone’s business if someone wants a different body. My sister got big fake boobs, nobody said “well, you don’t have a body that matches the boobs” they just gave her what she asked for and paid for. Why can’t a man do that if he wants? Why does he have to prove he’s a woman first?

None of that makes sense to me.
