Edit: figured out how to DM OP
If she’s not spayed, there is a very high chance that she will find a way outdoors, and pregnancy is very draining on their bodies. They generally have quite a few kittens because so many of them don’t survive. My most recent foster momma came to me practically skin & bones, and we lost 2 out of 5 kittens. Kittens are super fragile, and you can do everything right, but still lose them. And if they do survive, the shelters are already overflowing with homeless cats, so many get euthanized purely due to lack of space.
Yes, when I used to order grocery delivery via Amazon Fresh, they always came in paper bags. And I was living in a pretty rainy city at the time, but never had any issues with the bags.
This is more targeted to other people than you, but was the post right next to the couch? One of the smaller details that people often overlook is that scratching leaves their scent behind and says “I live here”, so they will often want to scratch in socially significant parts of the house. So, if the only acceptable scratching surfaces are hidden away from the rooms you actually hang out in, they’re probably going to find something else to scratch on.
Unfortunately, the same logic is sometimes behind litter box issues too.
Awesome! A friend of mine recently found a whole litter of abandoned kittens, so I was trying to help them find some low cost options, and everything around here was booked months out too.
What an adorable little standard issue cat! Looks a lot like my princess.
Please be sure to get her spayed ASAP, if she’s not already. They can go into their first heat as early as 4 months old, and will become desperate to get outside!
Garmin. You’ll probably spend a bit more on the hardware, but there’s nothing locked behind a subscription. I had the Fitbit Sense and switched to the Garmin Forerunner 265. If the skin temperature sensor is important to you, you’ll want a different model, but that’s the only thing I’ve noticed as missing so far.
I’m not sure about compatibility with HA (saw this via /all), but I bought the Whynter ARC-14S and a Broadlink IR universal remote + sensor cable so that I could set up some automations and/or control the AC via my phone. I think any AC with an IR remote should work in that setup.
If you’re in an area that gets lots of poor air quality days while you’ll be running it (my area usually gets a few weeks of terrible air in August & September due to wildfires), a dual hose AC is definitely worthwhile.
Stephen Colbert did a whole series of bits back on The Colbert Report where he formed a PAC, then a Super PAC, and pointed out numerous loopholes in the whole system. So basically, yep.
While I do share similar feelings, selectively bred cats and dogs do also wind up in shelters and rescues too.
Same for me! The majority of the times I’ve noticed it is when I happen to scroll past the same post/comment a second time, so I wonder how many I haven’t “corrected it”?

I also frequently enjoy more alcohol than recommended, so it’s good to know that my “expensive urine” may be serving more purposes than intended. Lol.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but the supplements I take are primarily intended to improve the quality of my life, not quantity. For example, I take a B multivitamin because I find that my nails don’t break quite so easily when I do.
It’s been a little while since I checked, but the last time I was thinking of making chilli, I decided against it because the ground beef was too expensive. I use the fattier/cheaper beef, and depending on which store I checked, the Impossible/Beyond products were either slightly cheaper than real meat, or the same price. Of all the shops I checked, the cheapest option ended up being Impossible or Beyond.
Some of the Lemmy apps have keyword filters. I’m using Thunder, but I know some others have it too. No clue if there’s anything for desktop though.
Does it have any mechanisms to detect someone who might just install the app on an old phone that just lives in the glove box? Seems like a real easy way to get around the “don’t use your phone” aspect.
My cat likes to scratch on this weird vinyl/fake leather chair that I have. I’ve tried covering it in tape, and he still scratches it. One day, I realized that whenever he scratches it, he almost immediately turns to look at me, so I started to wonder if he might be doing it for attention. On top of that, as soon as I tell him “no”, he usually walks over to me, looking for attention. It took a lot of patience, but since the chair was already ruined, I decided to try just totally ignoring him whenever he scratched the chair, and giving him positive attention when he scratched on his post. Somehow, it actually worked!
Another suggestion would be to put a scratching post as close as possible to the couch corners as possible, and when you do catch her scratching the couch, very calmly reposition her to the post. Praise her for using the post, completely ignore her for scratching the couch.
I know you mentioned that she has a cat tree nearby, but the geometry of the couch might be giving her a better stretch, she may like the material better, and/or she may be looking for a way to better claim the couch as part of her territory, as a scratching is also an important way that they leave their sent on things.
