I wouldn’t say that’s contrarianism. I’ve heard criticism for Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy since at least 2004, calling out observation comics as a whole was trending at the time of his show even. Larry David made that show great, and some of the cast played their roles really well, Jerry Seinfeld wasn’t one of them for me and seemingly a lot of people.
Endorsing a candidate or a party places an additional seal of approval on the actions and beliefs of that candidate/party. There’s a difference between saying “between ham or fish, I pick fish” and “I believe fish is the right choice for everyone, fish has qualities that I myself would like to emulate and believe in”.
She’s a pop singer who seemingly upset a lot of internet people (but not many real people) for saying “yeah, I’m voting for Kamala, but I won’t endorse her because the democratic party hasn’t done enough for the LGBTQ or minority groups and I’m not keen on the Israel support thing”
That’s why they said ‘house poor’. They’re not poor, read the article they even talk about it. Being unwilling to pay “what the market demand” is a fun way of saying “were priced out of all reasonable choices”.
Cost of living is different everywhere. If they made 250k in Indiana or Ohio, they’d have money to spare and a McMansion to boot. But Indiana and Ohio don’t pay 250,000 for a lot of things, the salaries don’t reach that here for a VAST majority of upper level earners in the state. Take into account cost of living and average wages in a location before you get shitty
He’s not complaining about his income. He’s saying “I’ve reached a level of income that SHOULD entitle me to the American dream, but even at this amount I too am barred”
When we say ‘eat the rich’ we don’t mean ‘shit on what is effectively what’s left of the middle class’.
Yeah the loopholes were written by people who went into business, learned the tricks of the trade, got advised on how to skirt the system, ‘retired’ to an advisement position lobbying or joining the government entities responsible for making policy so they can put new loopholes into the system and advise companies on how to use them.
This is hands down one of the most depressing articles I’ve read in recent memory.
Not that worse things haven’t happened recently, just that the people in this article are despicable in a way that leaves me feeling defeated. Christ, not a single woman who needed help in that article got help, and the people put in place to help them told them “don’t show off your shoulders, slut” and then intentionally filed it away in a manner that shows as “no sexual harassment complaints since 2001”. Fuckinf hell
I think his math is bad because he just went with a cool round number.
But, more realistically, she was probably going somewhere between 55-70 mph (don’t know road or highway or whatever) and that’s still a difference of 70-90 miles an hour. So I’d say yeah, the seat check MIGHT prevent harm if you’re super duper lucky but I don’t think that baby’s walking away from that with anything less than life threatening injuries
There must be people with great ideals, someone who will choose the high road as often as possible. Just as there must be people who know that the system cannot change from within, that it must be torn apart and began anew.
I like the concept, minus the real life examples of Magneto-minded dictators and violent revolutionaries. I think having that balance gives the average person, the reader, the opportunity to see the places where an idealist fails and where an extremist goes too far and how to walk a path closer to the middle.
Where I live, that would be a ludicrous income, definitely comfortable money.
In California, that would be a lower-middle-class-maybe-i-own-my-home-if-i-bought-early mind of an income. Our regions are so different in cost of living that these kinds of numbers can get funny/confusing
Again, if the whole district could be marketed to the same exact way, you’d be right.
Someone gets outspent by a factor of 7, and you think the most likely reason is the candidate? I don’t know man, I think you’re not applying Occam’s* Razor appropriately.
No I agree, but he seemed keen to try and bring up facts, wanted to be sure we had receipts just in case.
Look up public television viewership numbers based on income, ask me whether or not the Bronx WATCHED Latimer’s commercials, or even saw them.

I’m saying people in the suburbs seem more adept at picking up garbage takes
But more pointedly, suburban households are more likely to purchase cable television packages or engage in live TV coverage, where a majority of that spending took the form of advertisements.
That’s not how that works, different communities consume different forms of media and at different rates.
