I personally like AI in its current state, still goofy and not a valid replacement for people. I definitely don’t like that all of these corporations are justifying their billions in spending by forcing it into any and every app they can think of!
Why do I need Gemini to suggest a list of items I’m gonna need in my notes app that I likely opened to create a list of things I knew I already needed?
That was me reading the manual for the PS2 version of Sonic Zero Gravity my friend gave me
I didn’t have a ps2 lmao
I knew and have talked to a guy who makes AI generated music, and he’s as insufferable as you could imagine. He made YouTube channels and used all the shady tactics you could to get monetized, fake Roblox videos, fake drop shipping tip videos, botting subs, etc.
I’ve even had the misfortune of being featured against my will on one of his songs under an old alias!
At least when you say certain keywords to your pets they show some emotions!
Try saying “potty?” to an LLM and decoding its response to gauge if it needs to go potty or not, Google!
11.6 mega bites
Absolutely, I was pretty upset when Google added Gemini to their Messages app, then excited when the button (that you can’t remove) was removed! Now I’ve updated Messages again and they brought the button back. Why would you ever need an LLM in a texting app?
Edit: and also Snapchat, Instagram, and any other social media app they’re shoveling an AI chat bot into for no reason
Edit 2: AND GOOGLE TELLING ME “Try out Gemini!” EVERY TIME I USE GOOGLE ASSISTANT ON MY PHONE!!!
My favorite subtitle moment from Star Trek (I don’t remember which one) is the “Everyone prepare for a Happy Birthday!” on Netflix
That was the funniest thing little kid me had ever seen
Well no wonder I never had more bandwidth, it’s all your metrics eating it up!
With a lot of solar equipment, the tech support has access to a lot of settings us installers don’t, so we’ve had times where we tell the tech that we’ve done everything we can, including restarting it (and with my experience with Generac inverters, restarting them can and will break something!), and sometimes it really feels like they do click a magic button, say “how about now?”, then it works
I have a dark secret. I used to have CenturyLink DSL around 5 years ago, and the tech asked me if I had restarted the modem during one of the many stints where I would get bits per second rather than the “10mbps” we were supposed to get
I lied every time. I’m sorry CenturyLink tech support employee, but man did CenturyLink suck, and man am I absolutely sure that it never fixed the issue.
At one point I filed a complaint with the FCC and got a letter from CenturyLink telling me that they knew about the complaint!
I’ll definitely check some of those out, thanks! I have a little experience with Linux since every self hosted server PC I’ve built has always had Ubuntu Server, but even then I was tempted to try and dual boot Mint
As Microsoft adds ads in more places more and more, I consider moving over to Linux but I just have too many files and weird Windows only programs that I use that I can’t
I also haven’t really found a desktop environment I really like yet, so I’m open to suggestions for dual booting!
When I first saw that I was like “great, I have a virus”
Nope, just Windows
Almost every time I restart my Windows PC from an update, it sits on the “closing apps screen” or “restarting” screen then gives up completely and I have to force it to shut down/restart
And, just about every other time I restart with an update, it closes apps and then just fully shuts down after the update!
It’s super graceful! 😭
Figma apps!
I always get surprised by how big they look because for some reason I keep thinking they’re small
Maybe it’s just the shock from seeing them in person and trying to figure out why my world is de-rendering
I have them paired to a few things, but only ever use them on my phone and laptop. That’s why I was so confused when it connected to my desktop, since it was last paired and actually used a long time ago.
I guess it’s a complicated issue for me, since they’re paired with more than 2 things but only ever connected to 2 things
I guess I might be evil but when I made APIs for my projects I do this, since I blindly accept the response then look at the JSON to see if it was accepted or not
Something like
if (body_has(JSON)) do_stuff_with(JSON) // including error handling if the response has an error else error_no_json()
I do this since I feel like JSON errors should be separate from HTTP errors
I have the Pixel Buds Pro and they kinda do that, but yeah not very well. I have them paired to my phone and my laptop, and sometimes randomly they’ll silently disconnect from my laptop and permanently pause whatever I was watching if my phone plays a notification. I can’t fix it until I disconnect from and reconnect to my laptop multiple times.
One time I was watching a video on my laptop and they randomly connected to my desktop! I hadn’t used them on my desktop in at least a year, until then!
All in all, they can flow seamlessly, but it’s 60/40 on if it works properly
At least the noise cancelling and passthrough are fun to mess with
