I’ll take the Borg over the Nugheads. Kazon had potential to be interesting but they were never fully realized. I think their appearance was pretty bad design too.
Their character design made me want to break off a bit and smoke myself stupid.
The concept of the floating “Gilligan’s Island” presented a lot of writing challenges. How can you promote any consistency in antagonists if you’re expected to traverse over 70,000 light years?
The Borg were already established as a tried and true villain, so having one on their side presented a lot of creative opportunities. The bonus meme was mostly just a useful opportunity for another laugh. They became the big boogeyman for the remainder of the series and that’s ok by me.
I do wish the dank boiz had a true chance to shine, but as you said, that 70k light year travel presented a massive problem for the writers. They did their best though Voyager is fucken awesome.
Kazon are actually extremely fleshed out compared to other species in Star Trek. Their society of independent sects all working together (after Voyager) known as the Kazon Order is actually kind of cool. If it weren’t for their treatment of their women they’d be half alright.
But, their design, they way the Borg deem them unworthy of assimilation, the way they needed Voy to help them truly come together, idk something isn’t right there.

You don’t. They had the chance to really let their imaginations free and squandered it.
Always reminded me of oompa loompas
It felt like a weird less racist version of the original klingons
