There are schools today still named after confederate generals. I will think of you as bad for idolizing them but I wouldn’t find it super strange if someone listed a school named after one.

In my personal head cannon…

They can teleport from the transporter room to another spot and from another spot to the transporter room.

But they also don’t need to immediately rematerialize people immediately (the pattern buffer).

My theory is that they eventually learned that they can teleport people from within the ship, to the transporter room, not materialize them, and then send them from the transporter room to wherever they need to go.

So the room is still important in a lot of ways but once they learned they don’t have to walk there they stopped bothering.

That’s the in universe head canon but as for what actually happened it’s more likely to be what the other person said about it just being nicer for the story.

If we stopped spending extreme amounts on military operations unrelated to the US then we would be able to lower our taxes easily.

We also subsidize a lot of healthcare insurance companies so moving towards universal healthcare would ALSO lower our taxes Source

Personally, I’m in favor of doing both of those but keeping our taxes exactly the same so we can use the extra money to either repay the national debt or fund a robust social services system that would give us significantly better living conditions overall (such as free lunches for kids in school and easy government assistance on housing).
