Nope, this “membership” is only for air and water travel. There are still border checks on land. A great victory, as the politicians said, indeed.

The site has all current clients so I’d recommend checking it. As for me, I use Element X. It’s not bad, the only annoying thing is that it’s always asking me to turn on chat backup but when I do it encounters an error. But besides this, it’s alright, it does everything I need it to do.
The most popular such alternative is Matrix.
I decided to finally pick up Helldivers and I couldn’t be happier with it. The missions are entertaining and the community is great! The game is just… fun! There are still some bugs, like when I got stuck in the door of the extraction ship and died to a fire tornado lol, but those are rare, most times being just visual.
Should we be fine with being treated as second class citizens just because Russia is worse? Of course people will react emotionally and not completely logically, many feel that their country has been humiliated and exploited.
The fact that a single country can just blackmail others in this way, to achieve its own goals doesn’t sound like a union to me. And with such cases russophiles begin to appear more and more right.
The EU needs major reforms in that area to make sure no one can abuse it. And blaming people for being fed up, with 12 years being used as scapegoats by various populists, is directing the blame towards the wrong people.
As I previously stated, I’m an avid supporter of the EU and our membership in it, but it can’t go on in this state.
Which requirements exactly? Taking in Austria’s immigrants so their populists can brag that they’ve saved their country?
The requirements have been met a long time ago, and so says the European Commission. I guess Austria is the only enlightened in the whole EU to determine that Bulgaria and Romania are not ready.
Even as a strong believer in a united Europe, I can’t blame people getting eurosceptic, seeing how our supposed allies treat us.
Isn’t that intentional though? I don’t believe many instances, especially the small ones, can afford to federate every community. Sure, sometimes it can be a bit annoying but you can always check on lemmyverse.
They really are amazing. Glad to have you with us 😊
Saw you recently created an account here. You truly are everywhere lol
Oh definitely, I find them very enjoyable to read. Took a short break after the first book, starting A Clash of Kings tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement!
Why can’t we contribute just to have fun, why should there be some kind of an award? Besides, that’s just like the awards on Reddit and we know how well those work. The same one-liner under every post, flooded with awards.
This system just encourages farming and creates a hive mind mentality. Lemmy is great the way it is.
Lemmy has been feeling pretty empty the past couple of days. That just really goes to show how important federation really is.
Since 1.19 launched it is. Now you can export your subscriptions and settings to another Lemmy account
Same. It’s amazing how much time I have when the algorithm isn’t shoving me endless content, trying to keep me engaged.
The Bulgarian PM said that Bulgaria won’t be accepting any more refugees and that this kind of conditions are unacceptable, so at least that’s good.
I’m really disgusted by Austria. I really thought they couldn’t stoop lower but alas.
Or in other words:
“Austria wants to say it has resolved the problem, while fully ignoring the larger issue, and to get rid of refugees, by dumping them in Bulgaria and Romania.”
Well, there’s nothing wrong with having hope lol.
But as someone who just started reading the books, it’s a bit frustrating starting something I may not be able to ever finish.
There’s !asoiaf@lemmy.world but it’s somewhat inactive
It should have never happened. Gradual Schengen entry like this is for new members, not countries who have been meeting the criteria for 12 years.
The fact that countries like Austria can block others’ accession on blatant lies is beyond messed up.
Meanwhile, the Kilometers-long lines of trucks are still at the border, sometimes spending days there. The only things that changed are the two minutes you save at the airport and the politicians bragging how they “got us in Schengen”.
That was a shameful decision and a disgrace. The EU needs major reforms so countries like this can’t abuse their power or try to blackmail others, using Schengen.
