Using a different version of WINE/Proton could work. It may also depend on some extra utilities you need to install on your WINE prefix (Wine tricks is the tool to use for this). If that doesn’t work, the almost guaranteed to work option is a virtual machine running Windows. This comes with a small performance hit, but that may not be a concern.
The first thing I’ll say is the reason you’re more comfortable with Windows is because you’ve been using it for however long and learning to deal with the issues it has. The same needs to be done on Linux. You’ll have to learn how it works just like you forgot you did for Windows.
Second, along with logs like other users said, you have to know how to use a search engine well. Most issues will be easy to solve, but some may take some searching. The Arch wiki is a good resource even if you aren’t using Arch.
They’re only halting sales. My guess is they’re going to make the switch to F2P. It’ll take time to build and rework the systems for that though, so they’re taking it offline while they do it. I could be wrong, but I don’t think so. From the article: “at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.” That implies it’s at least not dead for good.
Still, not interested in it at any price really. It looked super generic. That market is crowded with good competitors so they need to do something new to stand out, not just copy what others have done.
Also, part of the issue is real green technology requires some people to change their business and/or lose some profits. If we do carbon capture or other things, that creates a product to sell. It’s a bullshit product that is worse than other options, but if they can it’s easier for politicians to sell this to donors than something that’ll hurt a very rich industry. Syphon money from taxpayers to make sure the rich dirty energy companies can keep making huge profits and give the tax money to some other rich people to clean up the thing the other guys are doing.
I thought the same when I first heard about it, but I gave it a go anyway. It’s a game changer.

Vertical tabs. I have a plugin on Firefox that lists tabs vertically and they’re also stacked so tabs opened in a tab get nested in that tab. I can’t remember the name, but I’ll update this comment with it when at my computer if anyone wants it.
Bookmarks are too permanent. Tabs are for things I’m interested in but don’t really care about (and so I’ll probably never get back to). I use different windows for different types of things, so it’s organized. I just have an alias to kill Firefox when I want to game.

I really liked 5, but I never got 6 and don’t plan on getting 7. Honestly, I’m not into what they offer anymore. There’s other civ-likes out there now, and there’s other genres I’d rather play anyway. I was watching civ 7 with some interest still, but for sure not with this.

I don’t think not talking about it is the same as throwing them under the bus. The fact of the matter is the Democratic party has already vowed to protect trans rights. Also, Fox News, and other media, has portrayed the trans issue in a misleading light and it’s the next big boogeyman. Them throwing away votes to assure people who already know who’s on their side that they’re on their side is stupid politics. Sure, it’d be great if we lived in a world where this calculation wasn’t needed, but we don’t.
It wouldn’t even be parity. That would require mass targeting of civilians, which I doubt Ukraine will do even if they were allowed and able to strike deep into Russia, as well as using chemical weapons and all kinds of other things.
The US (and some others, but the US is the largest obviously) is telling Ukraine they can’t use foreign weapons to attack into Russian territory. They are not allowed to use the weapons in the way they see as most useful. Especially with Russia using chemical weapons, they should be given the go-ahead to do what they see fitting with them.

They were saying supplying arms to Israel is bad because they’re using it to commit a genocide, so we shouldn’t provide the means for Ukraine to defend themselves because it must be equally bad. Fuck that. If Ukraine doesn’t win Russia is going to do horrible things. They must be stopped. We should be providing the means for Ukraine to do this and allowing them to use them how they see it needed.
A gas mask wouldn’t work for this though, right? If it suffocates by displacing oxygen then you’d need an SCBA, not just a gas mask. That’s a lot more kit to supply and carry around.
Yeah, it’s an exploit but it doesn’t seem illegal. It seems like the issue is with whatever service. They need to fix their contract or their software. Maybe it is in the contract or EULA that you can’t do this sort of thing already though, in which case it’s fair game.
