Abortions are on the rise in the United States, despite bans that have taken effect in more than a dozen states since the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that revoked the federal right to abortion in June 2022.
There were more than 1 million abortions in the US in 2023, the highest rate in more than a decade and a 10% jump from 2020, according to a report released Tuesday by the Guttmacher Institute, a research and policy organization focused on sexual and reproductive health that supports abortion rights. The latest trends also suggest that medication abortion is a more common option than ever.
Moronic pro forced birthers didn’t understand that putting a ridiculously low time limit to decide means women will need to make a decision faster instead of having time to think it over.
Nah.
That isn’t an oversight in their mind. The objective is to ban all forms of abortion. Legally, it’s a form of compromise, but in their view it’s a loophole.
The next crusade is that already limited window.
In this case, I prefer George Bernard Shaw: “There is nothing more dangerous than the conscience of a bigot.”
That is a good one.
“Never attribute human rights violations to anything other than malice.” - me
I also like what I call the boomer addendum to hanlons razor, “never excuse to incompetence what results in profit” or put another way, “profit is never an accident”.
Does not apply when the group in question is vocal about their stance on the subject
None of this shit is adequately explained by stupidity.
Unless the group in question is openly malicious.
Which is always the case for republicans.
But they’ll make this into an argument to ban abortion medication.
If only someone had warned politicians this would happen…
Oh wait, this was pointed out multiple times and they chose to ignore it.
I think like 80% of births would go away if people had the choice to become pregnant.
Hey girl, is this a good time to bake a baby? ( ) Yes (•) No
That is what contraceptions is for and countries where contraception and abortions are readily available don’t have 80% lower birth rates than the US.
Lots of people don’t wear condoms. You’re missing the point. If your body had to “approve” the pregnancy, I think most people would not approve it unless they were actively trying.
80% of births would go away
I doubt it would be that high, but if it really did eliminate 80% of births, it’d be pretty catastrophic demographically. The US would have the lowest total fertility rate in the world by a significant amount.
As an American, I can live with that if it means people aren’t forced to give birth when they don’t want to.
Future generations will be able to make whatever demands they want for employment and employers would be forced to comply due to reduced available workforce. Yeah it’ll fuck a lot of other stuff up but it won’t be fucking over the working class.
Real “Oh no, anyways…” moment
