While we’re on the topic: any good NAS hardware recommendation?
It highly depends on your requirements.
Low power usage, storage/memory expandability
Check out Wolfgang’s Channel on YouTube. He goes very in depth on low power consumption home servers.
Old Proliant cube servers
Synology usually just works. If you ask for a diy build, you have to be more specific.
Anything you can find 2nd hand cheap with a bunch of SATA ports and at least a gigabit LAN
Oh man. I’m still on 5 and terrified to upgrade.
Have you faced any issues upgrading past versions ?
I’ve never upgraded. I’ll have to bite the bullet at some stage
Any chromebox can be used for this. You can grab one for cheap from businesses that have decommissioned them
Unless you want to store your data… Chromeboxes are not known for being expandable
Huh actually yes, I have one with TrueNAS on and have created a couple of Zvol connected over USB. It is not like having a big server but it does the job while using little power
Interesting. It is not recommended that you use USB drives for ZFS but it sounds like it is working for you.
Perfect is the enemy of good. TrueNAS has been happy and running non stop for 6 months now
Anyone tried upgrading from 6.0?
Yeah no issues for me. Just ran the script to upgrade and reboot. All plugins are also working.
Yeah I upgraded my Odroid and ran into some issues with Armbian but I was able to work through it thanks to this post. I guess Armbian broke the repos a little and it prevented OMV from cleanly auto updating with the script.
Is this not for debian 11?
No, its based on Debian 12 (bookworm)
Ok thank you
