Meanwhile, some asshole is shipping ice from Greenland to Saudi Arabia so some rich assholes can enjoy some ice in their drinks.

If people people importing the stuff to Saudi Arabia for use in their fancy (non-alcoholic?) drinks accounts for let’s say 0.1% of Greenland’s ice loss, according to my calculations that means they’re each using like 50 ice cubes per hour, 24 hours a day. Those bastards!

Why did you erase your message? It was a very good bit of info.

            Here:

I’m reminded of the little factoid that was going around last year saying that each time someone flies on an average airline from New York to London, the resulting contribution to climate change means less sea ice by a number of square metres that was surprisingly large. Far as I could tell it was probably true.

Saudi Arabia burns a hell of a lot of oil per capita, more than even the USA and Canada. That’s what’s fucked up. And according to that source at least, so do the people of Greenland.

I was wondering how fast before someone blames Arabs for this. I will let you know if Greenland ice tastes any different.

FYI: we Saudis aren’t rich but having zero income tax, free education, free healthcare and subsidized housing leaves us with disposable income to spend on imported ice :)
